Dear Parents/Guardians,
I am excited about becoming an active participant in your child’s education. I do need to explain some policies of attendance, homework, incomplete assignments and behavior expectations.
ATTENDANCE
• First bell rings at 7:53. This is a bell that signals everyone to line up.
• The next bell at 7:55 signals that the school day has started.
• Attendance will be taken at 7:55. Any student who enters the classroom/lines up after 7:55 will be considered tardy.
• I do my best to record the time of any student’s tardy.
• Remember, 3 tardies equal 1 absence in the school records.
HOMEWORK
• Passed out for the whole week at the beginning of the week, and students should only work 20 minutes a night on different tasks.
• A letter, MR. MITCHELL’S MEMO, is included with the homework.20 minutes is the recommended time for completing homework every night.• Reading for every night is a minimum of 30 minutes.• Due FRIDAY MORNING.
• Checked for completion.
• Any incomplete homework will be returned the following week and completed at home.
INCOMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS
• Will be finished on Friday.
BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS
• Every student is expected to:
1. Listen when someone speaks.
2. Raise a hand to ask, or answer, a question.
3. Keep hands and feet to him- or herself.
4. Quietly stay on task.
5. Treat others the way he or she would like to be treated.
• The last expectation is very important. I treat the students with respect; therefore, I expect them to treat me with respect. Number 5 also helps the students think of other people’s feelings.
• The Code of Conduct is applied to all behavior.
• The best reward for positive behavior is praise.
• The Daily Behavior Chart will be a monthly record of your child's classroom behavior. Please initial the chart daily.
• If any notes are not signed and returned to me the following school day, the student will miss first and last recesses until I have the signed note.
Your involvement in, and your awareness of, your child’s education is very important. I am here to guide and help your child learn. With all these policies, my goal is to create a learning environment for all my students. I want every student to realize learning is fun, no matter how difficult, and accept challenges. If you have any question, please call me at school at 358-1620.
Sincerely,
Brent D. Mitchell
